One Design

IMGP4329The One Design crowd loves low-key, fun racing on small boats that hone your boathandling skills, while having lots of fun and sharing in the cameraderie. FBYC  fosters a great group of sailors who are technically skilled, amazingly supportive to newcomers. The festive socials after the racing ends are a highlight. Come join the racing with us!

The One-Design Division is the traditional sailboat racing for smaller boats, typically sailed by 1 to 3 people, and generally launched each day from a trailer or dolly. Most of our One Design Races are run in Fishing Bay - See Chartlet and aerial photograph. The One Design Division runs a full season of races from April through November.

By definition One Design means boats of a similar type and so the racing is boat for boat with no handicap system used.  However, twice a year at the Open House Regatta on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and the Long Distance Race on July 4th employ the use of the Portsmouth handicap system to allow boats of different types and sizes to race against each other. We are encouraging the Portsmouth rating to be used during Series Events too - we welcome any sailboat that wants to come out and race!

The one-design fleets which are active at FBYC include two person boats: Flying ScotLaser, Front Runner, and Optimist.

We welcome newcomers to join our fun! If you are interested, contact the One Design Division Commander. Contact information is found on "Club" drop-down menu > Board of Trustees page.
